Open Play | National Mah Jongg League Rules
Open Play is casual, social play at the Ozark Mah Jongg studio in Fayetteville. Come on your own, bring a friend, or bring your whole group. We’ll help get players seated and games going.
Open Play is not a lesson or supervised play, so players should already know how to play independently.
What We Play
During Open Play, we play American Mah Jongg according to National Mah Jongg League rules, as outlined in the NMJL's official rule book, Mah Jongg Made Easy.
Bring your current NMJL card. We have the tiles, racks, mats, and tables ready for you.
Open Play | $15 per seat
No membership. No standing group required. Just show up, and play.
Do You Play Another Version of Mahjong?
We'd love to have you in the studio, too! While our scheduled Open Play is reserved for American Mah Jongg using NMJL rules, players of other versions of mahjong are welcome to arrange a time during the week to play in the studio.

Join us for relaxed, social Open Play at the Ozark Mah Jongg Studio. This is purely open play, designed for players who already know the game and want table time in a friendly, well-run setting.
This is not an instructional class. Players must be able to play independently using National Mah Jongg League rules.
How to Book:
Click BOOK NOW, select your date, and adjust the quantity to reserve one seat or multiple seats.
When signing up, please indicate your preferred level of play so we can seat tables thoughtfully.
Play Levels
Beginner: The Charleston typically takes 5 minutes or more. Players understand basic offense, table etiquette, the NMJL card, and NMJL rules.
Intermediate: The Charleston typically takes under 5 minutes. Players are comfortable navigating the NMJL card, have a good offensive strategy, and are beginning to incorporate defensive play.
Advanced: The Charleston typically takes 3 minutes or less. Players are highly proficient with the NMJL card and comfortable using both offensive and defensive strategies throughout play.
We’ll make every effort to match players by pace and experience.
